'Curriculum, teaching & achievement'

Our Curriculum: what we intend to learn, how we learn and what influence has the learning had?

As a childcare provider, we have a statutory duty to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum to ensure every child has the opportunity to meet targets for their age. All children are expected to have the opportunity to develop in EYFS core topics including: communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. As children develop, specific topics are incorporated into their learning at stages they are comfortable with including literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive art and design.

All children are assessed at intervals and 'next steps' are developed in order to monitor and assist them to achieve their target, using the 'Birth to five matters' as a guide.

At Darling Daisies, we offer a 'Weekly Theme' that covers a certain topic, such as, 'Summer' or 'Farm Animals'. For that weekly theme, we offer a 'toy rotation' that include toys that help with imagination and skills. Whilst having our regular toys out also (such as the play kitchen), our toy rotation essentially keeps the children excited about 'new toys' every week. These toys are arranged at the start of each week and changed around before the start of the following week, offering lots of invitations to play. As part of the weekly theme, the EYFS core topics are taken into account whilst planning activities. All weekly themes are advertised on our social media page.
